  1. hey I have an AIW 128, the picture using the tuner connected to the antenna is great. My problem is when connecting anything via the s-video input on the card. I tried connecting my dvd player s-video out to my cards s-video in. The problem is the picture not even close to being crystal clear, and the signal is coming from the s-video output of a dvd player. The picture looks like when you connect your vcr to your tv using the rf inputs, with a crappy cable.

Im thinking the card is weak at recieving the signal, and was thinking if putting a good signal booster will make the picture clearer. I tried the composite inputs using the ati adapter and the picture is the same. The VCR signal is the same as well. The only time I get a crisp picture is when I have the antenna connected strating to the card. Also if I connnect the VCR using the RF connections on both the vcr and card, the picture is even worse!

The cables are not cheap. Theyre thick rca brand video cables. The distance is about 12ft.

would a signal booster help? or is there another solution to my problem? or does my card just suck!

    Thanks

If the DVD is a commercial DVD the problem could be copy protection. If it is a "home made" DVD, then maybe your problem is systemic.

  3. I dont think so, because Its the same thing with my ps2 with no macrovision and even my VCR. The problem is that the signal is just poor, and pretty dark. I will try to post a pic of how it looks in a little bit.
    Thanks

  4. heres a pic of how the blue screen from my vcr looks. Those horizontal lines you see is what I want to get rid of. They jump around alot. I can still capture pretty good video, but I feel I'm not getting the most out of it.

  6. You shouldn't need a signal booster for 12 feet. There must be something wrong with your cables.

Don't forget that Hollywood DVD and Hollywood VHS movies have a protection called macrovision which makes the image dark with fading colours. This may also be your problem.

  7. Cheap cables can degrade signals so make sure you have a decent cables before blaming the player or the TV card. Since you stated it's a quality cable and not cheap, all I could think of is weak or bad ground so try exchanging the cale for a replacement cable. Shorter cable usually helps.
