rip back from DVDr to HD.....strange results

hi, k....put all my svcds and vcds on dvdr. works perfectly on standalone and pc. now i would like to get some vcd (mpeg1) back from the dvdr.
i copied the vob i wanted and demuxed it with vobedit or tmpgenc. downsampled the audio to 44khz and remuxed with vcd settings in tmpgenc.
the problem now is, nero says its an invalid mpeg (stream encoding) and if i check the demuxed video file, its being read as an mpeg2. how come?
but even the svcd, when brought back to hd, are not accepted by nero.
i dont really understand, since i took the svcd, demuxed it, upsampled the audio to 48khz and used ifoedit to remux it to vobs.
so shouldnt the opposite way work too?
any input appreciated.
