Any software that has ads like the ones for Ebay and Credit Cards has the capabilities for being spyware. Whenever you are getting those ads the program has to make sure you are online to receive the ads. This is just like the free internet services from around a year ago that supported themselves with ads. You have raised the good question...what, besides the files being shared, is Kazaa looking at? Why have they not been sued yet like Scour was? I mean, major industry corps are advertising on this thing including studios!!!!

Be carefull when you use Adaware, not using it a second time (After it removes spy's and you re-boot) can stop your system from working.

Programs that are already running on your system cannot be deleted, so Adaware has to do this on the second run. Many people have stopped the internet connection when removing spy's like newdot net.

Goziler, Grokster all came with these spy's. As long as you know they are there you can remove them.

Most of the time, the spy's are not installed when you first download the program, but when it annonces there is a cool update, thats when you get them. Dont update

    Hi

I scanned my system for spyware 1st time 6 motnhs ago. And Adaware found over 300 different (spayware?) files. I removed them all succesfully. I scanned it last time 2 days ago, and Adaware found just 1 file: newdotnet2_92.dll.

I tried to remove, but without success, because the file is being used by windows. I started my system today with win98 start-up disc, and removed the file from DOS.

Does anyone know what for is this file here; where is coming from; what it does?

    P.

OK, I found a few usefull informations about this file. It's coming with all these nice appz like:

    Go!Zilla
    BearShare
    Mp3.com
    iMesh
    Babylon
    Cydoor
    Webshots
    gDivx
    ...

A firm which makes this stupid thing is http://www.new.net. The problem with this file, that it is working together with winsock and if you just delete it, all your tcp-ip connections will be blocked. It's being run by rundll32. I just deleted it out of DOS, and had no problems (?).

Well, if you have, you should click on start > run > and than run this.
    "rundll32 c:\winnt\newdotnet2_90.dll,NewDotNetUninstall"

    P.

p.s.: don't ask me why I write so much now. I am just feeling hig...... nice ................

New dot net, is a alternative domain program, it allows your browser to connect to non standard domain names.

You can remove it from the control panel "Add/Remove"

  9. Most of these programs say that they are installing spyware on your system when you install them.

Well if you have already removed it with Adaware then it wont be listed, normally it is.

Sometimes when you remove these spy's you stop the original program from working. Kazaa and the new gozila 4 will both stop working if you remove all the spy's.

I removed KaZaa altogether and embraced Morpheus.
It is a spinoff of KaZaa without the spice. No Spyware at all. You need to create a new user name at musiccity but hey, to me it was worth it.

    Check it out at http://www.musiccity.com.

Another good replacement (MP3 only) is Audiogalaxy. Be careful installing though: After installing the proggie itself you should block webcancer and Gator from installing.

  13. Morpheus is the most popular peer to peer program out there. Therefore you will have more users to trade with.
I have been using it for a couple of months and I think it is quite good! I think I read somewhere that Morpheus is either a version or somehow related to KaZa, and I have seen users names in the search screen that have Kaza in them. So I believe you are accessing them along with the Morpheus users. I have used Adaware and can verify that there is no spyware in Morpheus.

did anyone notice you can choose not to install most of kaza's spyware

all you have to do is a custom install and uncheck everything but kaza.

no one seems to notice this.
