what is cause of this when a dvd flashs black and color etc..
on a home dvd player.
a is it a bad dvd rental ? how does it go bad, how do dvds go bad ?
or a crappy dvd player that u buy for 100 bucks ??

DVD's, especially rentals, can be damaged by poor handling: dirt, fingerprints, scratches .
some DVD players have more problems to handle such DVD than others;
when I bought my last player, I have read several reviews and one of my major criteria was: how does the player handle damaged & dirty disks -
Are you trying to play a PAL disc on NTSC equipment. This can have the effect of the picture being displayed in black and white, but it is normally constant not flashing between black and white and colour.
