  1. Hi I would like to know which editing software is the best for adding transition and merge various Mpeg2 clips into one Mpeg 2 without "reencoding DVD compliant file"?

I do not want the program to re-render the mpeg2 file again.

I use Tmpg "Mpeg Tools" options to cut / merge file, now I would like to add transition between clips!

Dazzle movie star, maincocept Easy Video Editing, WinProducer, Arcsoft showbiz all says they are smart rerendering, but I tested it, they all re-render. I do not understand, or do I need to change some settings?

The way I tested it is to save a Mpeg2 file without doing any editing and see if the file size chage, they all changed!

The only program that does not do that is Cyberlink Power Directors, however, I can see during the transition (the only part the software reencode) there is jerky motion.

I just need a simple program that can add transtions or actually just fade in / out between clips. Any shareware? I do not want to spend too much money cause I do not need any fancy transitions!

    Any suggestions would be great!

I don't know about ALL programs but with Ulead VideoStudio 6 if you use your existing file as your project template it DOES NOT re-render the whole file just the transitions.

"Various" is the operative word here. If you have mulitple clips that are not identical, i.e., different frame size, bit rate, audio etc. then the program is going to re-render then entire project into one file with whatever template settings you chose.

    Not true.

Ulead MediaStudio has a feature called Smartrender that will only re-render the parts that have changed, i.e. the transitions and effects.

This will only work if the two MPEG files have the same properties, e.g. max bitrate, audio bitrate/Hz, framesize, etc. You set the project properties to match these properties and it will not re-render anything that matches them. If the second MPEG had different properties, e.g. a higher bitrate, or different audio bitrate then it would render the transitions AND the second MPEG but the first MPEG would be unaltered. In this case it is best to set the project properties to match the longer MPEG.

There is also an option to check that the project properties match that of the MPEGs before you do any editing. It also gives you the option of converting the file to match (in case of the example above where the second MPEG is different).

Ulead VideoStudio does pretty much the same.

  5. So here is example.

Movie captured in one big mpeg-2. Cut to 6 pieces with TMPGEnc (adv.out). Put them into Ulead MediaStudio or VideoStudio. Put some transitions between them.

Spicuzza and q1aqza ,Are you guys saying that it will re-encode only transitions ?
