  1. I don't need anything with fancy transitions or effects. Just something basic that will cut precisely on my marks. Tried Vdub, but it is unreliable in this respect, always adding extra frames or lopping them off, but rarely cutting on the marks I set.

    Vdub makes cuts at "key" frames. If you try to cut between at the start of your clip, it will move to the next previous. Key frames are important for maintaining A/V sync when playing the file. I believe you can cut in between if it is the end of the clip but you need to start the clip with a key frame. Not sure if you can rederive a new key frame at the point you select, maybe someone else might know.
