  2. if you load the avi's into GSpot (see tools section of this site) what does it say about the codecs for the files?

it does sound like a codec problem.

    cheers,

    mcdruid.

  3. well, it says (in "directshow render", is that it?) that the video codec is xvid mpeg-4 video decoder and in video format as well as in audio format, it says that both codecs (audio and video) are in my system and that it should play fine.... but it doesn't.

plus, both files i loaded in GSpot i can't watch them without my player crashing while the other videos that i didn't loaded play just fine.

    what the hell?

Kingjohn has an excellent post on codecs.

Download the nimo codec pack and check each avi or mpeg and install ONLY the codecs that are needed for each file to work.

  5. I am having the same problem with an XviD of mine (reds appear blue, blues appear red). Although I do have Nimo's Pack, it doesn't work for my XviDs (only for MPEG1/2 and DivX). I have a separate codec that I used for XviD called "ffdshow". Anywho, what do I have to do to get rid of this problem? I've tried just about every other XviD codec and NONE worked (I would get green screen w/audio) until I encountered "ffdshow". So telling me to use other codecs won't solve the problem.

Since I will only be using this video to burn to DVD, when I convert to MPEG2 from XviD, will the color problem still be there? If not, then I really don't care, as I always convert to MPEG2 before burning to DVD.

  6. for me it worked to unistall my old xvid codec and install the new one in here: http://nic.dnsalias.com

as for ffdshow, in other forum (sharereactor) someone told me that the reason that the picture is without its correct colours is because of ffdshow. in fact, i could watch fine all my movies except for nicholas nickleby. this one without ffdshow had only colored lines as an image, but even with ffdshow the picture was blue (but at least i could watch it!). with the new version of xvid (which is from the end of january 2003), it was fine.

so get rid of ffdshow and install the new xvid codec!

hope it helps and i'll see you again in the next codec issue (because a lot will come, i garantee you, he he).

    take care.
