I just bought a cendyne 4x dvd-r drive (rebadged pioneer dvr-105) I also bought some blank ritek dvds and I can't get my burner to read any of them. Is there any way to test the dvds to see if they are bad? Or do I need to upgrade my firmware on my burner? I did burn a dvd with a dvd-rw so Im pretty sure my burner is OK.
How do I check what version of firware I have?
Thanks for any help.

I also bought a couple of Princo X1 DVD-Rs and they won't play as well. I insert them into the recorder (SONY DRU 500) and after a brief blink of the activity LED nothing happens for a couple of minutes and after that NERO says that medium is not responding.
My drive is ok and I am having no problem with any other media I use. I wouldn't touch the drive. The media may well be bad.The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know. -
Thank you.
My regular dvd-rom won't reconize these discs either. Is it normal for a dvd-rom not to reconize blank dvd-r's? Can someone check for me?
This might tell me if my blanks are bad and if I need to send them back.
