    I was reading on the FF site that it uses Lame tto encode the MP3's. Well, whenever i play an avi made in FF on my Archos Multimedia, the audio is garbled and unregonizable. On the archos website, they say when encoding from a DVD, use the Lame encoder. Why does FF have a problem, when the audio I use from mediapipe doesnt? Also, the Add Audio feature doesnt work for XVID. It just freezes when it starts to encode.

    Does it play an mp3 audio-only file made by ffmpegX with the mp3 quick preset?

    yes, it does. Its strange, it must be with the aVI muxer that mencoder uses.
