Everything was smooth as butter with my dvd-r drive until recently- I wanted to try a new hard drive in my system so I removed my old cdrw drive (previously a 2nd master drive), made my dvd-rw a master drive and set the new hd as a slave... THe hard drive worked but burning with prassi failed (it stalled at initializing disk and then spit the disk out) and nero burned the disk but the disk was curropt.. I assumed that changing the drive to a master had something to do with it so I removed the hd and returned everything to the way that it was- CDRW as master, DVD-RW as slave.. Still no go.. Prassi fails, Nero ends with errors (original doesn't match copy).. Then I made the dvd-rw master, cdrw slave and reinstalled windows and the same problem! What's going on? Any ideas? I believe DMA is selected in Win XP and such.. Thanks!

I also had problem enabeling DMA with winxp pro. Went into bios set all drives to auto then save/exit to my delight DMA was enabled on all four drives 2 hard discs 1dvd combo 1 cd burner.Worked for me hope it works for you .I didn't try this earlier because the bios seemed to have found them automaticaly .After reboot bios went back to user with all the same settings but going back into the settings DMA was still enabled for all four devices.

In nero the drive makes a lot of noise and then, after a good minute, starts to burn (ending the burn with errors). Any ideas? I tried flashing the firmware but it's currently using the latest version..

OK, this is freaking odd.. I unscrewed the drive since, prior to yesterday, I never really screwed the drive into my case. So I removed the mounting screws and let it just sit in the drive bay.. Now it SEEMS to work??!? Why is this a factor? Prassi isn't done burning yet but it's never gone this far before - anyone else experience this? I guess I should be glad that it's working but this is still very odd to me..
Thanks!
