Maybe we can start a wish list for 42, then the developers would know what people want. I would donate if it performed these tasks:
Pal support, which I think is coming with 1.5 anyway.
A DVD > DVDR BACKUP solution, I think this is what a lot of people want:
Insert the DVD,
Select the bit rate ie DVD9 to DVD5
The program makes a copy(so the drive is not running for extended periods, this worries me)
Create Video and audio folders for burning in toast.
End of story.
I am not a programmer so I cannot say how difficult this would be to implement but if this worked I would pay for it.
Anybody else want to add their wish list?

K, most of these have already been addressed and as for DVD9 > DVD5 support, thats basically what it does when you choose the bitrate and VBR settings. Also, 42 doesnt run the DVD drive constantly. It copies the video vobs > avi format to the HDD and does the programming from there.

It can't intellegently decide what will fit on a DVD-R or not. You calc the bitrate and the VBR and hit encode. And if you did the rite calcs on the bitrate and vbr you'll currently get a huge MPG file out the end. It should be just the right size to fit.A DVD > DVDR BACKUP solution, I think this is what a lot of people want:

Have you ever wondered what that 5 - 9GB Movie.mpg.avi file is? That's the rip. It rips the DVD for the first while "Xferring video..." and then remounts/ejects it.The program makes a copy(so the drive is not running for extended periods, this worries me)
They are planning to output a VIDEO_TS folder with all the require information so you can just drag and drop it into Toast.Create Video and audio folders for burning in toast.

Awww shux....
BTW: I wasn't able to find that bitrate calculator you were mentioning... Either of them... any ideas? -
mr BitBudget can be found at http://www.planfilmberlin.com under their "DVD" section obviously. This one produces good results from what I've seen so far *shrugs* Try it out

My requests: A resume feature; got 70 minutes through a 90 minute DVD and it locked up.... There goes 4 hours.

Also, be able to select languages / subtitles with a pulldown menun. -
Hrm. Thats curious. Locked up, you say...that's something we've *never* seen. Can you explain this further?Originally Posted by BadBen

I should have made this clear: It's not Forty-two's fault..
The DVD was just in bad shape (that's why I was ripping it). Still since I own the mangled thing, it would have been cool to be able to pause / quit Forty-two, go rent it and rip the remaining time. Resume or pause would be excellent. I was going to try it, but with Forty-two running I couldn't eject the DVD.
Please note: I think Forty-two is awesome, I sent my donation! (And more is coming when the subtitle thing is fixed.) This is a just a WISH list. Right now, as it is, it rocks.
One more thing: I read your post about exporting to DVD format (video_ts, audio_ts). I hope you are planning to leave the other options in. I just like ripping to qDVD and keeping a couple DVDs on my Powerbook instead of actually carrying the DVDs around.
