  1. I picked up a dang cheap Pioneer DVR-105. I am using it in a "Beige" G3 minitower with a 500MHz G4 ZIF upgrade. I am using OS 10.2.1

I cannot extract any DVDs. I have tried OSEX, fourty-two, DVD-Backup, etc. I also get kernel panics periodically when initiating a DVD extract. Something in .iotoolkit. When I do get to the point of starting a DVD extraction (say, in fourty-two) I get a "read-write" error.

One thing I did notice: everytime I put in a DVD, it says that the DVD's region code is not set. Is there something I need to do to set the region code before I can play/extract a DVD? I tried running Apple's DVD Player but it says it cannot find any compatible DVD players!

Has anyone used the DVR-105 in a Mac with OS 10.2? Anything you did to it special?

    HELP!

  3. Thanks for the reply smyrna.

The problem. i think, is that I cannot set that region code. I have a older beige G3 with an upgrade card in it. Also, the DVD-rw is not the "Superdrive" but an OEM that is suppsed to work ewith Macs.

When I try and run Apple's DVD player (v 1.2), an error message pops up saying I do not have the right hardware! I tried upgrading to other versions of Apple's DVD player, but it always says that it cannot be installed on this Mac's hardware!

I was able to get fourty-two to extract a DIVX test movie which shows up great. But it failed on the full extract. Here is the trace:

  4. I am running the same Pioneer Drive in my old World Mac which the Beige G 3 is also. If you are willing to post your email i will send you a very small file 100kb in size which will fix the AppleDVD player which comes with Jaguar so it will run with your drive and let you set the region dode. it will likely also fix the DVD ripping and burning issues. I will under stand if you don't want to post an email address but I know of no other way to help you. Schwinn
