Ok I don't know if this is the right place for this so here it goes...
Ok I have The Sony DRX-500UL the external version of the DRU-500A.
Same thing though.
Using Ritek DVD-R's which come out to .83 each when bought in pack of 100, I have been able to back up Movies EASILY using DVDxCOPY. PS2 back up's are a breeze. EASIER than ps1 games. For those I used DVD Decrypter. For movies use DVDxCOPY and it's like 2 clicks to make a perfect back up. Using DVD Decryptor for movies and games is brilliant.
SAme quality same sound, the games are perfectly in sync and the vibration is in sync with the sound...in short, just perfect. Install DVD Decryptor, DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING. Open the program, go to the top, Choose the MODE tab, then pick ISO, then choose READ. Burn that image to your desktop. When finished repeat all of the above and instead of choosing READ this time you will choose WRITE. Pop in your blank DVD and that's it. Perfect back up. I have made 5 back ups and all worked fine!!
Using Recordnow Max (not DX which comes with the burner) you can also make ps2 back ups. However I had a friend do it and it worked in mine. Everything came out in the first try.
Here's the good part.....you DON'T NEED A MODCHIP TO PLAY BACK UPS OF YOUR GAMES. What you need is a special cover and special boot discs. The cover has a cut out lid that flaps open and shuts closed. When you insert the boot disc the ps2 begins loading like normal. But then the boot disk STOPS spinning and instructs you to INSERT GAME. The reason all along why you needed a modchip at this point, is because the PS2 re-reads the disc when you hit the eject button to put in the back up. But with this special lid all you do is lift it up and you will see the boot disc. Since it's not spinning you can easily pop it out and put in your back up without EVER having to hit the eject button or damaging your PS2!!
It's F'N easy to install. You have to find it though. Sorry I can not give out my source. Just search for ps2 covers on the net. It works and this Burner is simply the best out there. Do not install any of the software that comes with it. it is soccer mom crap! I am still in shock, I can't believe how easy this is. When I did my first back up I think I cried!!...hehe

It's funny how ingnorant you are. But ok I will bite. Tonight when I get home I will post pics on my site with the lid installed on my ps2 and you will see the ps2 and the TV with the back up in the ps2 and the "insert disc now" prompt of the DVD boot disc as well as pics of the boot disk.
And just so that you know. Go to Bestbuy.com and in the search type DRX-500UL and see what happens. Amazing that you don't have the burner nor the lid and you say it does not work or exist....That's cool though, I won't say anything bad about you, your ignorance spoke volumns about you your character and I am sure....about your income.
