Im trying to make a VCD out of an mpg with Nero 5.5 now. I was using 4.0 and it wasnt working so I dl. the new one. I dont even see my file when it burns it now.
I converted the mpg to :MPEG-1 320x240 29.97fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 192kbps using this TMPHGEnc program.
Ive tried doing this several ways now....
ive left "create standard compliant cd" on, and then it converts the mpg when i drag and drop it..
ive left it unclicked and it doenst prompt to change anything
both cases I have left "use CD-i application" on. I dont know if im supposed to or not.
encloding resolution is at ntsc
I have no menu enabled
iso level 1, iso 9660, and no restrictions
ive tried this like 5 times and nothing is working.
Ive dragged and dropped it on the bottom part (like the main part) and it doesnt show up on the cd after i burn it. I dont think im supposed to put it in any of the folders, right? i tried it once, and my video showed up in the folders, but not the main part (after i burned it).
I dont know what to do! am i missing something? My DVD player says it plays VCDs on the front, so i dont think its that. I just cant get my video to show up...what am i missing? this is very frustrating.

Did the disc burn ok? If yes then look at the folder on the disc labelled "Mpegav" and in there should be a file called "Avseq01.dat"?? This file is the mpeg video file you put in and it can be played with WMP. Try it,does it work?
Next, you say your DVD player plays VCD. But does it play CD-R's?? What make and model do you have?
Tell me how you get on -
Try changing your setting to {mpeg-1 352x288 25fps cbr 1150kdps, layer-2 44100hz 224kbps} it work's for me, try write for pal if you can but your dvd player should read pal & ntsc

Firstly, your MPEG is not VCD compliant (your audio bitrate is incorrect). If you use TMPGEnc, load the VCD templates.
Secondly, VCD compatibility on a DVD player does not mean CD-R or CD-RW compatibility. These are two completely different things.
If your DVD player doesn't say that it is CD-R/W compatible, it means that it wasn't designed to read CD-R/W media. This means that it will do so poorly/erratically/no at all.
If you experiment with different brands of CD-R media, you will often find one that works. CD-RW tends to work better in these cases.
