  1. Hello,

I need to copy some SVCD's disk.

They are quite old and kind of used up (many scratches). I want to make as good copies as possible, though I know copying Mode-2 CD's is not supposed to be easy at all.

I can think of 2 ways:

    1. Use some CD-coping software (CloneCD?, CDRWin5?, not Nero I know) and just try to make 1:1 copy.
But what reading options should I set? They're all like mystery to me:
"ignore read errors", "ignore illegal TOC", "EFM optimization", "try to correct", "use jitter", "use ECC" - they ring no bells.
All I know is they are important and may affect the result.
    Any clue, please?

    2. Try to copy the .MPG file on the harddrive, scan it with VCDEasy, or even "dissassamble" or "remove RIFF header" or..... and again - no bells ringing

I think the 1-st method tells me nothing about the accuracy of the reading, while the 2-nd is more risky in the matter of srewing something up later.

Is there any software that would read (and copy) SVCD's the way Exact Audio Copy is dealing with audio-CD's?

    What should I do then?

    Thanks a lot!

Sure, I just got CloneCD 4.
But there are so many strange (to me) options

Can you tell me which are best for SVCD?

    Drive Settings:

    Read retries: 0-1 5
Error correction: none / software / hardware
    Read retries:

    Profile Settings:

Read speed data: 1x, 2x,..., max
Read subchannels from data tracks: Yes/No
    Regenerate data sectors: 0-1 5
Audio extraction quality: bad,.....,best - does it apply to SVCD as well (just asking.... it's Mode2, isn't it?)
Fast error skip settings: Auto / On / Off
Intelligent Bad Sector Scaner: On / Off
    Sector Skip: 100
    Abort on read error: Yes/No

So please.... anyone can tell me how to set all these settings for best SVCD reading?

As for writng - that's easier - I think RAW-DAO mode will do OK. But first it must be read.

    Thanks!

  4. You dont have to worry about any settings Clone cd automatically detects the best settings when you put in the source cd. The only only setting you should experiment with is the read speed you may need to lower it as it usally defaults to max.

  5. Clone CD works great for me, but I recently discovered that the newest version of Nero on default settings makes a good copy as well using the cd-cd mode.

Well... Perhaps it detects the best settingts, but it still wants me to choose one of the profiles (juts before reading starts). There are profiles for audio, data, game, protested game, etc. - but none of them looks like s (S)VCD profile. Which one should I choose? Or - can you tell me what the proper (detected) settings should be, so I can make sure it's ok?

Same question - what exactly are the Nero settings you call default and work for you?

    Thanks!
