I'm very close to choosing DVD Workshop as my authoring program but wanted to know how the following would be done in DVDWS:
1. I want a short video to play before the main menu is displayed.
2. I want my chapter points in the chapter menu to be motion menus but I don't want it to simply play a duration from the beginning of the chapter. I want to define the specific in and out points from each chapter to be the motion menus.
How are these done in the latest version of DVDWS ?

I can only answer for version 1.2. I don't think 1.3 is that much different.
1. They have a first play option, you would drag your video into the first play area.
2. ? ? ? ?
Download the trial version first to verify whether it's the product you want, but I haven't found an easier authoring program to use with motion. -
2. The only way I know to do this is to render the lenght of the clip you want to a separate file in your editing software (assuming you use a separate editor from DVD WS). I sure would like to know if there's another way, though.

nolomeno is correct but DWS is a nice proggie. I just wish they had transitions for those times when you want 1 program to do it all.

Actually, I found out that you can define the clip for a motion button within DVD WS, but I think only one definition per "title." Check out the DVD WS forum at creativecow.net for more details. Since I only have one "title" in my DVDs, with multiple chapter points, it won't work for me.
