What I'm trying to do is author/convert simply movies (not interested in menu's or buttons) that just play the movie.
I'd like to us DVDit because of the ac3 support, but it hasn't converted an avi yet, but WILL pull in already converted mpeg's.
But I digress....
If I use Canopus ProCoder it splits the files, I'm then trying to pull them into DVDit so that I can convert the audio, but I fear the video will be recompressed.
Is this a waste of time?
I've been using Ulead DVD Factory and it's fine, but the obvious advantages of compressing the audio by 2/3's is interesting, but after banging my head on this for days and Sonic being of no help (glad I borrowed the proggie so I can dump it), I'm wondering.....
Any ideas?

I capture from Satellite using a Canopus ADVC-100/DV Raptor card. I used to encode file with TMPGne and have recently switched to using CCE. For size estimates and WAV conversion I still use TMPEGne. The resultant WAV file I convert to AC3 with Soft Encode. I use VBR sizing average, low and high to a little bit over 4 gigs. My AC3 file conversion (192 bs) is usually less than 250 Megs. I take the resulting video and AC3 file and use InfoEdit to author the DVD. I use Nero to create a DVD image and finally burn using a Pioneer A05. I have been improving the quality of the captures and I keep playing. I was thinking of testing out Canopus Procoder next. I have heard good things about it. Having tried DVDIT and found it somewhat slow. Check out CCE as it's much faster than TMPGne (although I still like it).

ProCoder is a good software i use it but the thing that i dont understand
Canopus is: i cant reduce avergae bitrate below 4000!!
i think it is hard coded in program....i converted LOTR (2.5Hr) i got 4.8GB M2V file and 1.7GB Audio file...no way i can put them on DVD-R....unless i rempeg them... -
You use soft encode for the conversion from wav to ac3?
1. How do you calculate the bitrate for video knowing you are going to compress the audio?
2. Where can I find Soft Encode?
I've used Canipus and have the streams, which, like I said, I'd pull into DVDit JUST to be able to use the conversion to ac3, but it doesn't work - for me at least, so this would, very much, be another way for me to accomplish what I want.
