Ive used TMPEGnc & after ripping the audio & checking the file for errors & fixed them with Virtual Dub. But on the final mpeg after 15 mins the video & audio goes and im left with a black screen. Towards the end of the working video (after 15 mins)moving objects turns different colours & squares appear over the place, very glitchy. The file is an Xvid dvdscreener which i downloaded from Kazaa. Any help is appretiated.

These are badframes that u missed with virtualdub (doesnt always pick them all up). Open your avi with virtualdub, go to to where it starts and watch movie. from where film goes glitchy to the next working keyframe delete these frames and resync the sound.
you know it's the anti-Midas touch when all you touch goes to shit..............
