  1. I want to backup some DVD's I have but delete scenes that I don't think my kids are old enough to watch. Can you Rip them, convert the VOB's then load the material into Premiere for editing?
If so how or which guide's should I follow?
    Thanks

  3. yes.

Rip the DVD with smart ripper or dvd decrypter
Run DVD2AVI on the vobs like normal
Run VFAPI on the .dv2 file that dvd2avi creates.
Import the converted .dv2 file (now w/extension .avi) in premiere
Import the demuxed audio track into premiere
    Edit the stuff you want

If you have the mpeg codec for adobe, then export it as mpeg, otherwise
AVI - then convert to mpeg in tmpgenc or the encoder of choice, demux it and author it in your favorite program.

Be certain to check the field type prior to adobe (run bitrate viewer on one of the vobs you ripped, it'll tell you the field order - upper or lower).
Then be certain to set this in adobe, since it defaults to lower field first.

premiere doesn't have any problem with mpeg files that have been frame served. However, like I'm sure you know, loading a mpeg directly into adobe, doesn't work so well.

  7. Premiere is not an mpeg editor. It will import mpeg2 if you have a 3rd party mpeg2 decoder filter installed on your system, but it does not smartrender to mpeg2. So if you export to mpeg2, it must reencode the whole thing. For true mpeg editing, use an mpeg editor like MyFlix or M2 Edit. Womble VCR might do that as well, so you can edit without reencoding the whole thing.
