Interlaced DVD to SVCD - please help!!

I've searched the forum for this and can't seem to get a solid answer, so I was wondering if you guys could offer a little assistance. I'm ripping an interlaced PAL DVD (Family Guy, a cartoon) to SVCD. It's the first time I've used interlaced sources before, and I'm getting horrible black lines. Now I've read that these lines really only appear when viewed on a monitor, but on a TV, you can't see them at all. Is this true? I'm ripping this to view on my TV with my DVD player, so will I have to bother with all this deinterlacing stuff? It's really confusing me. Thanks for any info!!

try to convert without deinterlacing , try a short clip of a few minuts,
burn it to svcd and see how it looks on your tv.

the reason im telling you to do it this way is that i had a movie once that didnt look right even on tv, so the best thing is to try it anyway.
if it looks good, you have no problem, go ahead and convert the whole movie.

if it doesnt look good, you have to use dienterlace,
there are a few options on tmpeg to use dienterlace, so you will have
to try on a few seconds of movie, untill you can see everithing is ok.

in tmpeg, load the templete you want and press "settings"
select "advanced" and duble click on the "deinterlace" filter.
now you have to choose the method it will use.
try until you can see that the picture looks ok.

i used "even field (adaption)" but it might be something ealse for you.

Thanks for the help people, I managed to sort it out though, I had force film set in DVD2AVI, when I took it off and set the source as interlaced in TMPGEnc, the lines completely disappeared, it looks perfect now. Only thing is getting it to look nice, getting some blockiness in places, should look ok on a TV though. Thanks again
