  6. I don't have experience with any others but i have an apex 703 and it don't like cdrw unless they are brand new first burn. After it starts garbling up the video on any latter burns. The more i use the cdrw the worse it gets. Won't even begin to play a cdrw if i have a menu(using nero) on it, keeps thinking the svcd is a mp3 data cd. Another thing is i can rewind or fastforward a svcd. It jumps to the beggining of the svcd.

By the way everthing i've said is in regards to svcd. It seems to work fine on vcd.

Anyone else having the same problems with this player?

  8. Apex quality sucks.....plain and simple. Go with Pioneer.

  9. I'm nearly positive alot of people would agree with me, that for features, you should get the Apex DVD's, and for Astounding Picture Quality, you should get the Pioneer DVD's, each have good models and bad models, but all of them would play any CDR and CDRW media without a single problem, now it's a question of what are you after ? is it features or quality ?

I have a 703 and have no problems with fast foward/rewind. And I'm even using Nero to burn which I know many recommend against for SVCD burns. I just throw the scandata.dat file in the ext folder and everything is fine.

    APEX is good quality.

It depends on the source and connection to TV

I recommend the RCA RC5240P. You won't find it on the players list because they are so slow to update that page. This player plays everything except miniDVD. Including mp3 and X(S)VCD. Great player, I paid $260 canadian for it.

What version of Nero are u using? I'm using the latest and it won't take dat files. Need to be mpg. Another thing, have you flashed the update your dvd unit with the update from APEX's site?

Ne1 else finding problems with fast forward/rewind of APEX 703 on SVCD?

Nero versions 5.5.3.5 and 5.0.3.8 that I have installed on two different boxes. When you say Nero won't take dat file this tells me that you may be trying to put the dat file in the wrong place. You should not be trying to drag in into the window that you place your mpeg. In Nero double click the EXT folder that you see in the upper left hand corner. Now drag the scandata.dat file into the winndow just to the right of it. Now drag your mpeg into the window you normally do and burn.

Create your scandata.dat file in Wordpad. Include the line "scan_vcd" without the quotes (&quot. That's it - nothing more. Name it scandata and when Wordpad saves it it will be saved as a text file. Rename it scandata.dat

That's all there is to it.

Like you said if you try to drag it to the window that you normally drag your mpeg's to Nero will complain and not accept the file. It's because it's the wrong place. Do what I suggest and it will work for you.

Let me know how it goes!

  16. Hi,

I recently purchased a "Yelo 800" DVD Player, it has played CDR/CDRW, VCD,and a DVDR, dont know other opinions, but i think it great value for money, it can also be purchased with or without matching set speakers "Kiro" i purchased without but am thinking of getting these as well, soon as i can afford it.

Yelo 800 Player itself really glad i bought it.

    Try http://www.lynxdv.com/dvstore/

    Regards all.

I would have to say that if one wanted to have the best of Apex and Pioneer DVD players combined--they should get a JVC DVD player. It has mp3 capability, and the new JVC has been less resistant in playing my homemade noncompliant XVCDs. JVC also has a progressive scan of this model as well in silver or gold. JVC is not a perfect player, but it has played several of my XVCDs that the Pioneer 343 could not handle or play properly.

Pioneer is definitely more reliable than the Apex DVD players based on history or past reviews.
