I read that the Sony DVP-NS300 should play DVD-R discs, but I always get " No Disc" error. Sony say that DVD-R has "not been tested on this unit". Can anyone give me any tips on how to get DVD-R discs to play.

e-Proformance blanks work on a friends player which is the same model, but they are the only ones I've found so far that do with any reliability.

David,
I have the same issue with my POS Sony NS700P.. the damned thing won't play my burned Princo DVD-R's.. gives me C:13 00 Disc is dirty error.. which leads me to another question...
Gary or anyone.. Why does my Sony NS700P have NO PROBLEM whatsoever playing the same Princo DVDR's that are created/finalized by my Panasonic DVD recorder (DMR-E20)?? It has to be something during the ripping-->burning process that is causing the problem, no??
Anyone want to speculate (or know the answer)?? -
I have a Sony DVP-NS700P among others. It seems to me whether a disk will play in a particular player is a bizarre combination of brand of player, brand of disk, burner used, program used, method used, phase of the moon (don't laugh -- as a grad student I had weird stuff go on in a biology experiment and then read something about sunspots ionizing slides so things worked differently depending ... and my advisor thought *I* was crazy - they got it PUBLISHED ...)
Anyway the story. I use generic silver disks (no brandname on them -- about 30 now at least).
Disks authored and burned with DVDIt on my Vaio have all worked on all players tried (I think it's up to 9 players now).
Disks burned on the Panasonic DMR-HS2 work on all DVD players tried.
Now read slowly - may take multiple times - feel free to draw a flow diagram ...
Disk burned on HS2. Disk is not recognized by Prassi PrimoDVD to either make a copy or use as source for building Image.
VIDEO_TS folder is transfered to Vaio harddrive using Windows explorer. Used to burn Disk with PrassiPrimoDVD. (recognized as a DVD, based on icon it 'gives it'). Plays on computer fine. Get the C 13:00 error (I didn't know that meant "dirty disk") on all my players (4 Sonys, the HS2 and a JVC).
BUT
If I take SAME disk burned in HS2, give to friend who either (a) moves it to HIS harddrive (a MAC) or (b) copies directly, using "Toaster," the Mac version of EasyCDCreator and generic disks burned .....
----this disk plays in all players.
----this disk CAN be used as source for image by Prassi
----generic disks burned from said image plays on all players.
Also turned out the same thing happens if the process starts with Apple disks, rather than the generic.
So you tell me .... Sun spots or the phase of the moon
Bottom line ... find a combo that works for you and don't change a thing. Until that combo stops working (seen THAT reported) and then start the process of elimination again.
