I'm capturing video from VHS tapes that were recorded in the early 1990s on a 2-head mono VCR.

I'm GUESSING that a resolution like 352x480 and a audio bitrate of 96 would be suitable for these types of captures to DVD?

Yes, but you need to have an audio bitrate of at least 192 48hz.

I don't know. I am using the information from table at www.vcdhelp.com/dvd. Maybe you can use a lower bitrate. Try it out and let me and the person who posted the table know. I would probably be able to fit an extra show on a DVD that way.

  5. I had a DVD with an audio bitrate of 96Kbs so I guess you can go lower, it was a commentary track.

    EDIT,

I think you would have to capture the audio as PCM then convert it to AC3 at 96Kbs or if it will let you MPEG1 audio but 96 might be a bit low for that.
