Problem with DVD2AVI any suggestion please!!

hi, new to backing up DVD's so i used the easy way out setup. ripped the DVD with smart ripper all went ok i have 5 vob files and a full movie i can watch when it came to the second stage using DVD2AVI the program picks up the vob files ok starts then freezes after about 5-7 minutes i have tried 3 different versions of this software but they all do the same am i doing anything wrong?? i followed the DVD to VCD instructions to a T I get the feeling my computer doesn't like this program so if that is the case then any suggestions of a simular program that will do the same thing please so that i can finish off with Tmpegenc or maybe any software that will let me carry on from my vob files would be just as usefull
