  1. Hi guys:

I just got a new DRU-500A that came with firmware 1.0e, I wanted it to get advantage of the 4X speed so I decided to go with the new update (1.0f) that was posted on the Sony's web site. I followed all the instructions an tried the upgrade without any results....after rebooting the PC, nothing happens and 1.0e still there. I already spent half an hour on the Phone with Sony support and they have no idea what the problem might be. I'm not getting anything after running the update, it does not tell you that it failed neither if it went ok.....I mean no windows at all. Any help wold be appreciate it because I'm about to return this drive if I can't get it to wok at 4x. I will try it in another PC today but I would like to hear from somebody first.....because it could be a minor thing that I'm not doing wright.....

    Thax in advance

  2. Cubanzo - Check to make sure that DMA is DISABLED on the DRU500 before you try the update. The 1.0f firmware is very picky about this and likely will not run (I'm on Win2k and got errors).

  3. Coop:

thx for your reply......I uninstalled Intel AA, Nero and Clone CD....DMA was also disabled (PIO Only).....took the other CD-writer out of cable and power.....I even took out my second HD....still the same.....
It's funny that my DRU-500A was manufactured Dec 18/2002 and the 1.0f file is from Dec 6/2002.....Why wasn't 1.0f included with the drive in first place?

    Thx
