Does it do transitions ? If not how do you edit with titles yet encode it with Tmpgenc ? Do you edit in another program and save as an AVI then encode? Do you have to separate the sound from the video? I have read lots of stuff but it is very confusing.

  2. Since you have winsows xp you can use the microsoft free editor Movie Maker 2 as your editor. It has lots of fancy transitions. When you make your movie, output it to a file using DV encoding. This will be the AVI file you give to TMPGenc when you make your MPEG movie.

TMPGenc does not have editing functions like you describe.

There are many other editors. Look at Pinnacle Studio & Ulease VideoStudio as a start.

So Kitty, I could use My editing program I have now or movie maker ,do my transitions/Titles save as an avi then use Tmpgenc to encode as Mpeg2? Do you lose a lot of quality saving back to an avi?

I thought my videos were coming out good until I watched Tech TV where they made a vcd with Tmpgenc . If the vcd 's look that good the DVD's must look as good.

    Thanks for your help

Adobe Premiere can add transitions and it can save the file as an AVI file. :P

    jra111,

as stated, use your movie making (editing) application to generate an AVI, encoding it with huffyuv, a free lossless codec. It is not as efficient as DivX but you will lose nothing from the original. Tmpgenc can read the AVI and encode into MPEG.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
