  1. why are there no mod chips for dvd players besides apex?

because as we all know, apex isnt really a "top of the line" dvd player.

  3. You won't find any mod chips for the better DVD players like JVC, SONY, Yamaha, Dennon, and so on.
Why because the cheaper DVD players by APEX, SAMPO and all the other Asian, china or korean players have nothing more than a computer DVD-Rom player in them with it running either a DOS or LINUX system which means you can, I have heard it done, take apart a APEX DVD player and replace the DVD drive with a better computer IDE DVD drive, say by pioneer, kenwood or so on, as long as they are not faster than a 8x.
I have had my APEX apart nothing more than a IDE DVD drive, even has the ide cable from the board to the drive.
The more expensive players, or better ones have their own design of DVD drives and not replaceable.

  4. so, basicaly.. what you're saying is that if i put a good dvd-rom in an apex dvd player. it will be a "near top of the line" dvd player?

you can, the power supply might not work. the cooling fan might not work.

stuff with ide dvd-roms has advantages because it can usually be upgraded or hacked.

also, i believe that because it's a standard computer dvd-rom, it has to be able to read homemade stuff better. who would want an ide dvd-rom that won't read their cds

  6. no it will not be top of line...because of the decoder & and other chipsets in side the board...your DVD-ROM drive will better...thats it.

  7. is that why people say that apex has a picture that isnt as good as 'top of the line' dvd players? because of the decoder & chipset?
