  5. Hrm, uhh, a bit of the pot calling the kettle black ehh, qs? How many times have you bitched about ffmpegX not having "variable framerate"? Or how 'bout all the times you didn't like a particular app because your VCD wasn't in sync? You're on this forum pissing, moaning, and demanding all the time.

Maybe you should take your own advice?

  7. What would Major have to gain from lying? Do you think he gets some sort of pleasure from out of sync VCDs? Quite the contrary. Major has put together an awesome tool that works for him and he has been kind enough to share it with the rest of us.

The fact is that ffmpegX does fix the sync issues. I've made plenty of SVCDs, CVDs, and VCDs with perfect sync. First time, one shot, no problem - just check the QT Decode option and you're golden. Some people have reported out of sync results with "Problematic DVDs" but I honestly have not had a single problem yet. I've recently got into some DivX creation and they all sync perfectly as well. You know what ffmpegX uses to create DivX? Mencoder; the same as your beloved 42.

If you want something changed in an app, then request it respectfully, compliment the author for his efforts, and encourage him for further releases. Don't bitch about its shortcomings. You don't like it? Well then go out and code your own app. If you actually had to pay for ffmpegX, then there would be some validation in complaining about things you don't like. But you don't pay for it, it's free. If you don't like it, don't use it.

Another thing I hate seeing is all the "this app sucks" threads. Most, if not all of these types of posts should be named "I suck because I'm a dumb ass and can't get this app to work". In the past I've seen so many threads that bash programs like MissingMPEGTools, AfroPic, and of course ffmpegX. The majority of the time the problem is the fault of the user.

Everybody should just be happy with what's available. Name one commercial Mac tool that does what 42 or ffmpegX does. Name one that can even do half of what they do. I can't think of one.

Everybody also just needs to use their brain once in a while. Many of these tools work, really. Sometimes it just takes a little trial and error. I finally got so sick of hearing all the ffmpegX bashing so I put up a guide to help everyone out. Ever since I've put it up I've received plenty of emails from people telling me of their high quality in sync results.

The Mac (s)(x)VCD/DivX creating community really owes a big thanks to all those working to make video creation easier and better. I can remember coming on these forums less than a year ago and the tools being discussed seem so ancient now. Last summer when I first got into VCD creation I probably made a total of 3 in sync VCDs. In November I got a Dual G4 the same time a new version of ffmpegX came out. I made about 9 or 10 perfectly in sync SVCDs in a couple days.

I'd be lost without ffmpegX, as I'm sure others on this forum also would. Thank you so very much, Major for your hard work and generosity and thanks to everyone else who continues to evolve video creation on the Mac.

  8. Thank you SCB, very well put.

This forum host a lot talent, on both sides of the keyboard.
    Feedback is critical to evolution.

Testing is what development is all about, but negative attitude can break the motivation to work on a project. I know, I've canned my share.

The Mac video community has come a long ways in the last year.
I am proud to be a part of it.

    Hats Off to all involved.

Come on now I know for a FACT that the author of AfroPic thinks its sucks as well

    Ask him
