    I upgraded my drive just after installing it, so I don't have any experience with the older firmware, but the drive it's working as expected.

    I just upgraded my Pioneer DVR-A05 to firmware 1.21 and have just tried burning to 3 brands of cheap media (SmartBuy, EProformance, and a noname disc) with no success
    Now I'm back on TDK and EMTEC. Seems like there was no point in upgrading the firmware!

    I had problems with Memorex DVD-R's from Best Buy on any standalone player until I upgraded the firmware to v1.21. After that, both my standalone's and a friends (Pioneer, Samsung, Sony) all work A-OK.
