My RCA RC5240P plays CD-R/RW perfectly! It even advertises it has one of its features. Don't buy that Pioneer yet.... if you see the RC5240P it also has MP3 playback so you should defiently consider it. If you really want to keep your existing player I found that my old RCA RC5215P would SOMETIMES play Memorex Silver 74min CD-RW.

One of your main problems is the PNY's. Had two fifty packs I couldn't use on anything. Wouldn't even work as a data cd.
