  1. Hello All, I am using smart ripper to rip > Xmpeg 4.2a to encode with CCE 2.64 > In the settings of CCE 2.64 if I close the GOP, the result is lines that blur the motion.
If I do not close the GOP, the picture looks good.
What does closing the GOP mean, and should It be on or off in a perfect world?
    Thanks

  2. Closed GOP is used when editing is needed where all information about the video stream is saved every frame. GOP is Groups Of pictures. Mpeg video use inter-frame compression, where one frame is dependent on the previous and following frame. GOP normally have I, P and B frames. The I frame is a full complete frame, and you can make an edit on that frame. The distance in frames between the I frames is called the GOP.

It looks to me that when you record the mpeg with a closed GOP, you loose data normally used for video information, and the video quality will be lower. Whatever happens, the video quality looks worse with a close GOP setting.

  3. Thanks for the explanation, this sheds new light on what the GOP does. So I could say that regardless of the software I use to encode I would not want to close the GOP?

You would need to close the GOP's If you want to add chapters when using programs such as VCDeasy to Burn the (S)vcd

If there is a quality difference it must only be very slight because i have never noticed the difference

  5. There should only be a difference in video quality on low bit rates. At high bit rates, you should not see any difference.
