when i try to convert an avi to mpg , tmpg gives me an error for the audio "audio can not open, or unsupported", i cannot for the life of me figure out what i'm doing wrong. is there some setting i have wrong. any help appreciated

Try playing it in windows media player or something. And search for the codec the video uses. It sounds like you are missing an audio codec. So find what its missing and install it. If you cant figure it out try out gSpot it will tell you what codecs the program needs.
