  1. Hello all,

    I have been capturing from my Sony DV through Ulead VS6 into AVI
    files and converting with TMPGENC. I just noticed that the properties
    of the AVI shows 3511 bitrate with the sony/ms DV codec. Does it
    make sense to encode to DVD using Max 8000 bitrate???

    All of the scenes are high motion and I don't have a problem with time/encoding/length. Should I encode at 2pass VBR Min 3511 or does the higher bitrate actually help in this instance?????

    Thanks

  2. I always thought that DV was 25mps. In other words, you have no choice but to go down for mpeg-2 to 8 mps or less.

  3. OK...Maybe I need to clarify.

    My question is;

    Since the DV codec is compressing to 3511 bitrate in the captured AVI, do I gain anything by converting with TMPGENC at a bitrate ABOVE 3511, or is anything above 3511 just wasted. I have been converting at 8000 and am happy with the DVD results, but is this just wasting time/bitrate since the AVI bitrate is 3511?

    Thanks

  4. What you see in properties should say 25,000 (not 3511) given that is the set rate for DV. If you see anything else, the program is inacurate or you are not looking at DV.
