  1. I keep gettting this the file "blahblahblah.avi" cannot open or is unsupported.

I then go to the troubleshooting page and i have downloaded all those codecs that it told me to, plus i went to the environmental settings and changed priorities. Still doesn't work. If it helps im trying to convert from .avi to a vcd.

All the movies that i downloaded off Kazaa have the codec MP43 and one of them is in codec div3 could this be a problem? How can i change these to divx?

    Thanks for any help.

  2. Try to install the divx 3.11 codec if you haven't done it.

  5. this has just happened to me (this minute!) and Tmpeg was running perfectly before.

I tried opening files that it opened before, and it's saying it's unsupported.

Take a look under Options -> Environmental settings -> VFAPI plug-in tab.
Make sure DirectShow Multimedia File Reader has the highest priorit. If not, right click and select higher priority 'til it has.
If that still doesn't help, I use to load the AVI in VirtualDub, then frame server to TMPGEnc. On my system, VDub accepts far more AVI's than TMPG.

wot can I say, went through something similar 3 weeks ago and gave in, went for a complete format and reinstalled (joys of broadband, I seem to do this every 3 months now), everything works now. Perhaps try uninstalling all codecs (make sure they get unregistered) and putting them back in again
you know it's the anti-Midas touch when all you touch goes to shit..............

OK before you do anything drastic get GSpot and open your avi with it. It will tell u whether u have the codec installed. If you havn't get it. Use Nimo codec build 7 as build 8 is unstable (allegedly) for your codecs. Try installing all the codecs from this build, u are probably missing one Perhaps do a search for pure codecs . but avoid packs with adware if poss. Yes I was talking about about formatting my OS but I wouldn't advise it to anyone who doesn't know how to or partition their harddrive, but as I said I seem to do this regularly now, got used to it. If your not used to doing it though then uninstall all your codecs (make sure u unregister them) before putting new ones in. Or if your using XP go to a recovery point where everything was working. I've also found that TMPG will sometimes go to shit from time to time to time when I've installed other vid processing progs, have been experimenting a lot the last 9 months, often sorted by uninstalling TMPG and then reinstalling it.

  13. you can also try removing ALL your codecs and TMPGEnc..then reinstalling it...just to give it a refresh and then try it...hope it works...

  14. I have found that if I put in a DVD and play it with PowerDVD I can then open an mpeg2 file with TMPGEnc. If I quit PowerDVD and then try and open the file it reports unsupported format. WASSSUP ??

  15. I think it's because something is messed up with your Mpeg 2 codec...when you try to open up your Mpeg 2 in Windows Media player does it say something about you not having a decompressor...PowerDVD and WinDVD are the best softwares to play Mpeg 2's..I usually use PowerDVD to play Mpeg 2's only...

make a direct stream copy WITHOUT the audio in vdub. then try loading the new .avi in tmpg. sometimes and for some reason tmpg has problems with certain audio formats. if it loads without crashing you know the audio is the reason. make a .wav file in vdub and multiplex the 2 streams in tmpg. good-luck
