  1. hello.. forgive my ignorance but i'm so very confused by all the jargon.. i have a few avi. files which i downloaded from the internet and want a simple way to convert them to mpeg.format which will enable me to burn some vcd's...please don't state the obvious and direct me to the help pages as ive mulled over them for hours and am still confused.also ive tried to download tmp...but it wouldn't open for me..many thanks in advance for any assistance offered..

    If you want the absolutely simplest way, use Nero and select to create VCD. Then drag the AVI files and Nero will encode them into MPEG for you. This is by far the worst way to do it (in terms of quality and speed) but I think it's the simplest.

    Now, if you want to do it with a standalone encoder application, Tmpgenc is good and free for MPEG-1

    What do you mean by "not opening"? Use the links for tools in VCDHelp to go to the download site and download it. It should download. Doesn't it run? If so, what happens when you execute Tmpgenc ?

    Learning to make VCD's requires some effort, reading and trial and error. It also can require downloading and installing a number of programs. Depending on a person's proficiency with a computer, it may take a fair amount of time. Sasi has given some good advice for what may be the simplest method. This forum can help somewhat, but it sounds like you might need more than that. (Ask a friend?) Keep at it and come back with specific questions, the more detail the better. You'll get better answers that way.

  4. many thanks for the prompt replies to my querie i'll certainly do what was suggested and put more time into trying to make a vcd when i open tmpe.. i get a message saying an error occured while trying to execute the file. anyways,i'll try and find alternative download sites....once again ..many many thanks for the help and advice
