DVD Drive & DVD Player Compatibility

I have a Sony DVP-NS 400D DVD Player. I want to buy a Dell DVD+R/RW Drive with CD-RW Mfgr? Part #8X229, Dell Part #313-1547 if it is compatible. (Price just reduced from $349 to $314)
Specs: Dell 4X/2.4X/12X DVD+R/+RW & 16X/10X/32X CD-RW Internal EIDE Drive 2MB Buffer for Dell Dimension 4400.
Sony Tech Support could not answer and Dell has not replied as yet.
Does anyone know if they are compatible or a website that has a compatibility chart?
