I found this player at http://www.futureshop.ca and it appears to be pretty good. Just wanted to know if it plays SVCD's. It says it will play VCD's but like most sites they say nothing about SCVD.

It's an excellent DVD player. However, it will only play compliant XVCDs without messing up. I had it for a month and it played compiant XVCDs fine. Then, I wanted to make some noncompliant XVCDs. They played fine, so, I made a bunch more. Then, I decided to watch one XVCD all the way through one day, and the player will randomly decide to pause for up 25 seconds at any time (it's not consistent)than it will start playing again. This is very annoying. But if you're looking for just a decent DVD player, I would get it.

  3. I didnt think there was a standard for XVCD?? Only VCD and SVCD?? If your getting pauseing try reducing the bitrate.

There is a standard for VCD (actually that is what I meant). When I had the JVC DVD player, the video bitrate was set at 1150Kbps which is what the video bitrate should be. The only thing I modified was the "performance level". I made the video look good enough to where there was very little if any pixelization(if that is a word).
And when I meant by "compliant" is when Nero will accept it as a "compliant" VCD file. The only way I can get to accept it as a compliant file in Nero is to "realtime" capture the video or encode it. There is no way that I will do either one of these because encoding takes to long. "Realtime" capture only looks good when you are recording something from cable tv, but forget about VCR capture(you gotta increase the performance to eliminate the blockiness).
I hope this clears some things up.
