    I want to convert VHS to a file on my PC. I'm new to this and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as to what hardware/software i will require, how to set up and maybe even web sites that may be of use to me.

    check out the guides on the left hand side over there. Pay particular attention to the Newbie, capture and author/convert sections. These will be of immense help to you. Good luck!
