I believe you can use DVD Studio Pro to set chapter markers. Otherwise you just copy the DVD as a image and then reburn (assuming it fits on one DVD-R).

the dvd was too big to just burn the image so i tryed to set chapters in dvd studio pro, but:
1. i don't know how, and
2. not all of the ac3 files were selectable, is there a reason for this and a way to fix it?
thanks for your response!! -
In DVD SP, you can set 'markers' for the chapters by double clicking on the video in the movie track of the main project window, clicking the 'add marker' button, and positioning the slider to the location you want the scene break. Another option is to use DVD Extractor 0.9b for classic MacOS, putting it in scene mode (w/ demux streams enabled), and extracting all the scenes into separate files. Then, you have to import them all into DVDSP and link them so they play sequentially. I have never done this, and I don't know if you can easily make them play without pausing between scenes, but it might be worth a shot . . . I use that option in DVD Extractor (scene mode, not track) so I can split DVD-9 discs to 2 DVD-5 discs by selecting half the scenes, selecting the 'merge selected' option, along with 'demux streams', ripping them as one set of files, and remastering with DVDSP; and then doing the same thing with the other half of the scenes selected.

thanks for your replies, but they didn't seem to work. i tried an older version of sizzle, and once again, most of the ac3 files were not selectable, so i ripped the dvd again, this time all as one title. i added markers in dvd studio pro, but now the audio and video don't match up. i didn't think it would be so hard to backup a dvd with the original chapters! someone please help me! thank you to all who have already!

Do you mean it's not synching when you preview the disc in DVDSP, or when you preview the VIDEO_TS folder from the hard drive in DVD Player, or when you burn the DVD and play that in DVD Player? If it's the former, synching is not accurate at all in the disc previewing mode in DVDSP, and not quite accurate when you open the VIDEO_TS folder in DVD Player, but much closer. Finally, if the burnt DVD doesn't synch, then I have no idea what's going wrong. Is keeping the original format not an option? How big is all the contents of the DVD you're trying to copy? How about the main video track?

k, here's the deal. it did not synch in the preview of DVDSP. so this means when i burn it, it will be in synch, even though it previews different? I do not want to waste a DVD+R. I cannot keep the original format, because it is 5.7GB i guess i will need to cut out part of it, which will be ok i guess. so basically all i have know is a mp2 file and an ac3. thanks for helpin me out here!

The Disc Preview mode in DVDSP is very unreliable as far as audio synching goes. It's pretty much useful only to make sure the menus work and you have the buttons linking to the correct tracks. Do this: go to the File menu, and choose 'Build Disk'. This will put all the DVD files on your hard drive in DVD format, and create an empty AUDIO_TS folder, and a VIDEO_TS folder containing the movie data. Then, with DVD Player, choose 'open VIDEO_TS folder' from the File menu, and navigate to the newly created VIDEO_TS folder, and play it back in DVD Player. The synch should be much, much better, but maybe still not perfect. If it's very close, burn this to DVD-R, and it should play correctly.

if your burner can hander - or + rw's you should use those for testing the dvd's out so you don't eat a coupleof bucks on write onces. you need toast though to do this cause dsp doesn't recognise dvd-rw's or +rw's.

That's not a bad idea, now I've found a use for those -RW discs that cost twice as much . . . thanks, Pants!

compusa has been having sales on the dvd-rw's so about 4-5 bucks for one. i think they are more at best buy.

can you use a dvd-rw as many times as you want? or does it ruin it after a while. does it lose quality or does it always remain the same. just for testing, i would like to have a rw if i know it will last.
