  1. I recently created a VCD movie, but dont have the original anymore (i had borrowed it from someone). I watched the vcd for the first time yesterday and noticed that in random places throughout the movie (mostly during fast-motion scenes), giant blocks appear for a split second then disappear (on the standalone DVD player). Sometimes they cover the whole screen, sometimes only parts. When played on the computer, it just skips over those frames completely. So, basically my questions are
1: can this be fixed, and
2: if I have to create the VCD over again (i used dvd2svcd), is there something I can do to fix this?
I would post my log file, but it seems to be missing...
    *Thanks*

Those "big blocks" are macroblocks. They show up when there is not enough sufficient bitrate to support the scene (frame).

    Hope That Helps!!! :P

  3. Well....eh.....can I fix this with a VCD? because I'm pretty sure my dvd player doesnt support VBR vcd's (and I cant do SVCD's with DVD2SVCD)
    Speaking of SVCD's and DVD2SVCD.... 8)
When I create an SVCD with DVD2SVCD, every once in a while (getting more and more frequent as each disc progresses, down to about 2 minutes apart), the video falters and the sound skips. With the same settings using TMPGenc and DVD2AVI and smartripper, it doesnt..why?

  4. "cover whole screen"...

This would imply to me that it may not be simply a blocking problem (due to insufficient bitrate)... And you say that these don't appear when you play back the disc on the PC?

Do these blocks always occur at the same section?

The other possibilities for your problem is that your stand-alone player is having some difficulty reading your discs AND/OR you have errors on your disc.

Does this mean u re-encoded the mpeg or just copied it from the source VCD?

If it's the latter then i definitely think u're problem is due to scratches on source vcd = corrupted frames in your source movie.

I re-encoded from the DVD to a VCD

Yes, actually. When played on the PC AND the dvd player...so it must be from the encoding process, right? The problem is that I dont have my log file because I deleted the entire output folder.
