  1. I've been converting my avi's to vcd and burning them, and everything works fine. But the quality on my tv isn't as good as i would like. So i made a svcd and it converted fine, no problems. Then i went to burn it on cd and i got some stupid message like this won't work in a vcd player. I use TMPGEnc to convert my files. I've tried easy cd creator 5 platinum and nero burning rom 5, and both won't even let me add the file. The file is in mpeg 2 format. Is there any special software that i need to burn mpeg 2 on cd-r. Thanks in advance for any help

  2. What error message did you get when you add the MPEG-2 files? It should work on newer version of Nero. Are you sure you are encoding with the SVCD template (MPEG-2)?

I could be wrong, but I don't believe EZCD Creator 5 Platinum has an SVCD profile. At least I don't remember seeing it in there, I don't have it currently installed, but I checked the box and it doesn't mention SVCD. If you were dropping an MPEG-2 file into a VCD profile in EZCD Creator it may have given you an error something like that (since the VCD specification requires an MPEG-1 file.)

Nero does have a SVCD profile. Are you sure you were using it and not the VCD profile? It is labelled Super Video CD. Could the error message you saw be "The file 'example.mpg' is invalid, need MPEG-2 that was encoded for Super Video CD:" (with your filename being where I put example.mpg)? If so, the file was not created to the specifications to match the SVCD format. Those specifications being:

    NTSC (NTSC Film)

    Video:
max ~2524 kbit/sec MPEG-2 (if the audio is in 224 kbit/s), audio + video bitrate max bitrate is ~2748 kbit/s.
    480 x 480 pixels
    29.97 frames/second
    23.976 frames/second with 3:2 pulldown (NTSC Film)
    with up to 4 Subtitles

    Audio:
    from 32 - 384 kbit/sec MPEG-1 Layer2
with up to 2 Audio Tracks

    PAL

    Video:
max ~2524 kbit/sec MPEG-2 (if the audio is in 224 kbit/s), audio + video bitrate max bitrate is ~2748 kbit/s.
    480 x 576 pixels (CVD 352x576)
    25 frames/second
    with up to 4 Subtitles

    Audio:
    from 32 - 384 kbit/sec MPEG-1 Layer2
with up to 2 Audio Tracks

If you want to try another burning program I would suggest VCDEasy. Sometimes VCDEasy does not burn immediately after install. If you have a problem burning with VCDEasy:

In VCDEasy, in the bottom right corner, does it say ASPI seems valid: yes, or ASPI seems valid: no? If it says ASPI seems valid: no, that is your main problem. In that case I suggest you go to: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/frcaspi.cfm , download the ForceASPI drivers, install them and reboot. If after you reboot, it shows "ASPI seems valid: yes" then on the CDRDAO settings page, select generic-mmc as the force driver for the CD Writer, select your specific CD Writer in the dropdown menu for that section and check the force execution box. Now you should be able to burn using CDRDAO, which is the CD burning program built in to VCDEasy.
