    Very cool. www.apple.com/powerbook

It will be interesting though - no OS 9 booting with these. (Just Classic)

That sucks (no OS 9 booting). It means that I can't use DVD Extractor 0.9b with them (doesn't work in classic), which is unfortunately a very necessary companion to any DVD-R drive for the time being.

Why don't you just use DVD Backup?

Because sometimes, you need to split a dvd in half or rip certain parts of a track to get it to burn to DVD-R, something OS X ripping software doesn't let you do. DVD Backup is perfect for what it does, but you can't extract tracks, or parts of tracks demuxed. DVD Extractor is still essential for some things, and doesn't work in classic.
