  1. I am very new to this type of thing and would like to know id there is a way that I can "hack" something on my computer to allow me to rip a dvd movie from a dvd disk. And if so please email me a t hi_marin@netzero.net . it would be a great help.
and if there is a way, I can send a copy of "planet of the apes" ( the new one on VCD) to the person who can show me how.

  3. If you couldn't read between the lines you need a DVD-ROM drive to read a DVD. There's no way a CD-ROM dirve can/will do it

You can find cheap DVD-ROM drives (~$40) thou. Try Best Buy, CompUSA or mail order at http://www.pricewatch.com

I'm not sure if it would work but if you have a hardware dvd player you might be able to take the loader out of it and hook it up to your computer. Its basically just a dvd-rom and thats what your pc recognizes it as. Ive done this several times to upgrade the firmware, who knows maybe you can rip a dvd like this.

  5. Adam's right, but you'd be much better off picking up a DVD-ROM - I saw one this past weekend in the Sunday paper for $19.99 after rebate.

    Kdiddy,

I agree that this post can upset some-one (some people are easy upset)

But please do not try to insult people. This forum is to share information, a concept some people don't get anymore.

  8. Well its just that on ebay there are cd's that you could by that claim to have software on them that have the capibility of ripping dvds without a dvd rom drive. It says you can make a copy of your dvd's using only your cd-r burner.

Its a scam. Never buy those "this cd unlocks all the secrets to _______." They always just contain information or software which is free on the internet anyway.

There is no way to rip a dvd without having a dvd-rom of some sort.

  10. Can you fly if you don't got wings?
    Can you breath without air?
    Can you read without eyes?

If you can read this, then i think you have got eyes.

If your still reading then there must be air.

    Now try to fly.

  11. Well actually you could technically rip a DVD on a box without a DVD ROM drive. If you happen to be on a network that has a box with a DVD ROM drive then it could be done - technically speaking (my home network for example). I realize it doesn't answer the original question but it is possible.

  12. No, without a DVD drive accessible to the computer (EhHumm... by installing one in your computer or via access over a ?network?) you cannot RIP a DVD.

Ripping implies digital, pure and digital. Extraction directly from the DVD and recompress VOBs to the MPEG of your liking.

You can use some capture cards like the DC-10+ or WinTV to do it, but you will pay more for either than you will for a cheap DVD drive. Check Tiger Direct, 12X DVD for $49 (Check the post date, aye..) However, thats injecting analog into the mix and you are not ripping, but then captureing.

Hope that answers your questions... At least you didnt ask how to get a settop DVD player's DVD drive to work in yar puter! HA HA!

  13. I think we all have to deal with too much negativity in our lives. I can't understand why anyone would go out of there way to produce more, so i'm gonna assume that you truly want some answers to your questions.

Myself and many other frequent fliers would say "yes, you can fly without wings". But just incase you wanna argue that the plane has wings, there are many forms of flight like hot air balloons.

    "Can you breath without air?"

I'm assuming you mean breathe. The answer would be yes. As breathing is just a molecular exchange to replenish oxygen and to expel carbon from our bodies. Air or liquid doesn't matter. Deep sea divers actually require liquid due to the pressure.

    "Can you read without eyes?"

Once again yes, thanks to braille it is not necessary to see in order to read. Also text to speech is a reality now and will be much more common in our future.

I hope this reply helps you.
