  1. Hi,

I have a Thomson DTH-210E. I know it's not the best DVD player you can have for playing SVCDs, but being a gift I can't complain

Well, this player can play SVCDs, but fails to play many of the ones you can get over there. It just gives a black screen while the front panel says "Reading..." forever, and the player is blocked.

If I get one of those failing SVCDs with my computer, copy the AVSEQ01.MPG file, and burn a new SVCD with Nero from that file, it always work (maybe after some conversion)...

The question is: why some SVCDs won't play on my DVD player? What's the difference with the ones I make with Nero? What settings should I avoid when burning SVCDs for my player?

Also, most of the SVCDs that works on my player have an annoying problem with sound. The fact is that in most cases the video and the audio is out of sync, with audio playing some half a second delayed, so people starts opening their mouths before you cant really start listening to their voices. The efect is most noticeable when you see some door closing (you see it close and then you listen the sound) or things like that, making a very unpleasant effect...

Also, I have problems with level of sound. I can be watching a movie scenen with a correct volume, when suddenly in the nexte scene voices are almost impossible to listen... I have to put volume up on my TV, but then the volume of the movie starts to raise until I need to put volume down on the TV, and start again and again... It seems the problem is only related to voices (sound effects always play at the same level, I think), and voices fade the most when a loud sound effect has just taken place on the movie, making them almost impossible to listen to for a while...

Is there something I can do to solve these problems? I have no problem doing any kind of conversion on my PC. But I don't know what parameters I need to play with to solve the audio sync and level problems. Or... is it an unsolvable hardware problem with my DVD player and I need to forget it and go for a Daewoo DVG6000D or so? (my brother has one of these and has no problems playing almost everything!)

    Thanks!

    Toni

PD: I tried the SVCD demo you can download here ast VCDHelp.com and it plays perfectly well on my player, with no sound synchronisation nor audio level problems at all. So I assume the ones not working can be converted to play also well on my player. That's only I don't know how to do that!

PD2: sorry if my English is not very good, but my native language is Spanish O

Some CDWR drives have 'stronger laser', also it helps to burn with slower speed, say, 8-16 or slower in some cases. Blank CDRs are not equal in quality either.

Thanks Dubber for your answer... In fact, I've tried many CDWR drives and lots of CDR/CDRW brands with the same results. Also, I've tried with all writing speeds from 2x...
