  1. So far I have DVDXCOPY and RECORDNOW MAX. I also have SMART RIPPER I believe.

Can DVDXCOPY be used alone, or does it have to be used in conjunction with others? Can someone give me a "step by step"? I have seen some, but if you're a computer dummy and they speak of components that you don't have (nero, etc...) it makes it more difficult to follow. Please include any other programs/software I might need, if what I have isn't enough.

And is it true that you can only make ONE copy of the DVD? Not that I want to start a factory or anything, but I would like to save other family members $$$, the same way I do with CDs.

Thanks in advance, as you see, this is my first post!!!

DVDxcopy should come with a help doesnt it ?

anyway i have never used it but from what i understand -> put in dvd -> hit start -> follow promts

you can make as many copies of a dvd as you want but not nessesarly legaly ... the idea of backing up a dvd is for your own use - any other copy is considered illeagal

  3. I'm sure there is a "help" button of some sort on there. Haven't bothered to use it yet. But I also assumed that burnin' DVDs was a more complex problem than a "help" button could fix (by the amount of people enquirin' about doin' it).

And the reason I asked about makin' multiple copies was because of a post I seen yesterday suggestin' otherwise. Can't find it exactly but it goes somethin' like this other one I found...

    9. NOTE: DVDXCOPY is now checking for the ARCHIVE.TXT file before it burns the DVD. If you use their software to burn the DVD you will not be able to delete this file. If you use some other software to burn the DVD then you can delete the file ARCHIVE.TXT file located in the directory that DVDXCOPY created.

    10. Go back to DVDXCOPY and follow the BURN method you desire.

This method removes the warnings for DVD 1. I did not take the time to do DVD 2 but the same procedure will work on this one also.

Following the above procedures now allows DVDXCOPY to copy a copy as it doesn't know that it was not an original! There are much better methods to use to do a DVD copy after you have ripped the protection.

This process should take about 5 minutes.

    chrissc,

DVDXCOPY is billed as an all in one "backup" solution. Your copy should have a self contained burning engine. Uses either Gear or Nero, depending upon when you purchased it, they changed it somewhere along the way I think. Obviously it would be best to go through the directions at dvdxcopy.com. The program makes a copy of the original files and places a text file in so you can't make a copy of the copy. You could ofcourse make another copy of the original, but that is not "backing up", it's making multiple illegal copies for distribution. We don't do that here.

try the dvdxcopy forum at afterdawn.com

    good luck...jim
