  1. just a quick question....has anyone ever successfully tried the header trick...it seems like such a great idea but i have never gotten it to work. Everytime i try to multiplex it when it gets to 100% i get a buffer underflow error...and the mpeg is not watchable. Anyone know another way around this or maybe another program i can try doing this with besides tmpegenc

    thanks

  2. The one time I tried it TMPGEnc processed something like 20% of the file and stopped (saying it was complete).. I think I had more of a life back then and didn't try to figure it out.. now I forget why I even tried it since my DVD player plays SVCDs. meh..

I use it all the time. I also get the buffer underflow error all the time and the movies always play fine.

When you say the mpeg is not watchable, is that on your PC or on your TV/DVD player. Maybe your dvd-player can't handle this kind of disk, after all it is rather non standard.

  4. I have used the header trick to play vcd's on my panasonic dvd player.
I encode the avi file using the standard SVCD - NTSC template in TMPGEnc, I do not make any changes except for the audio bitrate which I lower. once I have the mpg file I change the header to MPEG-1 Video cd (non-standard). this seems to work for me, without any errors.

  5. in not watchable i mean...that 1 of 2 things will happen...on my PC that is...

    1. Sound but no video
    2. No dound or Video

It makes it all the way to 100% but like i said i get a buffer underflow error...and 1 of the 2 listed above happen when trying to play it.

is there any other program that will do the same thing..that i can try.

bubbabyte, bbMPEG is another program that's used for multi-plexing. bbMPEG multi-plexes the files with the correct packets and everything and you usually don't receive errors either.

    Hope That Helps!!! :P

  8. hashslingingslasher, the model on the panasonic is dvd-cv51, so far I'm not disappointed with it, except for the remote control.

  9. To Bubbabyte: Itīs normal, that after multiplexing from SVCD to VCD header you canīt watch this file. But after authoring and burning (for example in Nero) as VCD everything will be OK.

  10. To Bubbabyte: if you want to watch the tricked file on your pc, try using a software dvd player that will let you play files individually. I use msi dvd player that came with my video card and it works. good luck.

  11. I have Sony DVP-NS300. I can make VCDs play (using Princo CDs) on the player but not SVCD. I reently read this trick on VCDhelp and tried to use multiplexing using TMPGenc, but it does not work for me. I extracted the MPEG-2 file using Isobuster. I keep on getting the error message mpg file is of illigal format. I have tried to change the file type from MPEG-1 Vedio Cd to MPEG-2 Video Cd in the MPEG Tools but the file could not be selected. I thought once the video input file is sucessfully selected I could change the type to MPEG-1 and run the multiplexing.

Any suggestions? how to solve thois problem.

  12. refer to my previous post. My mpeg-2 files were corrupted (although vcd easy declared the fit to use). Therefore, i tried different files and had no problem using header trick. I can now play SVCD on my Sony NS-300.
