  1. I have Windows Media Player 7.01. The file I am tying to play is DivX 5.02 720x384 900kbps, audio 128kbps MP3. I encoded with Virtual Dub. My computer is 533MHz, and 64 Megabytes of RAM. Even Zoom player and PowerDVD lags. The only player that I have tried that it doesn't lag on is "DivX Player 2.0 Alpha", but i hate player 2.0 alpha (the audio decompression is crap). What player should I use that won't lag?

  2. BTW The Video is way slower than the sound and media player plays all low-res files perfectly 480x256 at extreamly high bitrates (10mbps), so I know its not the bitrate.

  3. No ideas? Maybe my system just doesn't have enough power. 533megahertz celeron. 64megs of ram. 20 gig hd (not that that matters).

  4. It's the system. You got the minimum specs, but that's about it. For high quality playback, you want more than that

Mind you, there's some posts about P200's and P II 450's that play it all oh so smooth. There were also allusions to flying pigs in those threads mind you... lol

I wouldn't use something smaller than say, 800Mhz 128 meg. This new divx player project of mine is gonna be built with a 1300mhz duron, for there was no way at all I could buy a slower CPU across country. (I was looking for a 1GHz) If you can toss an extra stick of RAM in there and a faster celeron, the upgrade will be rather cheap too.

    Good luck

  5. Thanks for the reply. I am planning on getting a new system anyway. But what about DivX Player Alpha Playing so smoothly? Is it just that it is optimized for playing DivX? The only thing I don't like about DivX Player is that the audio sounds terrible comming out of it. Anybody eles experienceing this problem?

  6. I always find that is the case. If WMP plays it's crappy, The Playa plays it smooth.

  7. Yeah. The Playa is like the older version. I think I liked it alot better than DivX Player Alpha though. Can't figure out whats wronge with the audio though. Its very fuzzy and lots of buzzing sounds.

  8. That's right, I keep called it The Playa. Good thing they changed it(probably did a while ago and I never noticed).

  9. go to tools and download Nimo Codec Pack and install the Divx codecs from there. They are much better then the official ones. I had the same problem on my celeron 700 and after installing Nimo codecs they played fine Audio in sync.

  10. Cool, I'll try that. Kinda wierd. I would think that the official codecs would be alot better. Whats different about Nimo Codec Pack?

  11. They are the SAME as the "official ones", just put together in a nice and convenient pack. Some players will use some filters, or codecs to play it back, or post processing, or not... direct show or not... Lots of things...

The nimo codec pack is a good thing, but it's the same codecs. Mind you, when it installs, it will do some changes in your system, and that might have helped you somehow. A celeron 700 should be able to play most of it smoothly, mind you, it's on the egde imho. Also, wmp (7+) is bloatware and has some surround effects (SRS whatever) for sound (and other silly things) that can't be helping you out either.

  12. well after installing the divx codecs from the pack i loaded v-dub and it said i had a hacked version of the divx codecs and if i had problems i should load the original ones.

  13. Hacked versions as in "radium" mp3 codec and in "DivX ;-)" which is a hack of a M$ codec.

  14. Before I loaded Nimo Codec Pack, I never had green screen at the begenings. But now I do. They play fine, still lag (its my cpu). but the green screen is kinda dumb. I don't see the point of Nimo Codec Pack. I think I had more luck with the Official packages. But oh well.

I didn't install mp3 codecs. I know DivX is a M$ codec hack, but V-dub said that it was a hack of DivX codec (it didn't say that for the official one). O well, sorry it didn't help you DivXExpert you can always uninstall it. All i know is that it fixed my old comp.

I had the same problem with audio and video out of sync. I was running a PII 450. I suspected my system was the problem and discussed it on the ABMA newsgroup forum. Other users confirmed my suspicion. As I was not able to completely overhaul or replace my system, I opted for a Powerleap 1.4GHz CPU upgrade. Fixed my problems. Also there was comments over on ABMA about choice of codec and some able to work properly on a 450MHz machine. Don't know, faster CPU worked without anyother fixes.

  17. Now that I installed Nimo Codec Pack. The audio in DivX Player Alpha was fixed. That was the only player that played the files smoothly, and now it works. So thanks guys.
