  1. everytime i try to delete this avi file, it keeps sayin something else is using it. i dont know wth is using it. i tried opening the file. then wen the error pops up i click on details and then close again. it worked for a few that i have before but this time it doesnt work and its taking up some space i need. im currently using XP home.

    the other question is

i have some dvds i wanna rip and they have subtitles. my question is how can i encode everything together without losing quality? something like using the dvd rip itself for tmpgenc without compressing it to avi but adding the subtitles.

    thanks,

Reboot your computer, and then before doing anything else, try to delete the file. If this doesnt work, go to start, run and type in MSCONFIG
then go to the start up tab, and uncheck everything cept Explorer (if listed)
be sure to jot down what things you are unchecking, as you may want to check these things again. Then close out and reboot when prompted to.
Then went the puter boots back up, delete the file.

If you want to convert these DVDs to VCD/SVCD/XVCD/CVD use DVD2SVCD, its a fabulous program that automates everything for you.
