  1. Newb question, sorry. Trying to test out burning an mpeg to a vcd for viewing on my dvd player (yes, mine supports vcd's). I'm using Nero on Win98, and grabbing mpeg files off Kazaa for testing. It seems to burn fine, but the .dat file won't play on Media Player, and in my dvd player will either play partial or not at all. Could this be a problem with my source .mpeg files (I've tried 3-4 different ones) or am I doing something wrong?

  2. well make sure in media player u hit at the bottom show all files to open the .dat and if that doesnt work, then maybe update windows media player, i have heard before that changing the registry settings will let .dat play in media player if it isnt at the moment. but i forgot where i saw that sorry. and as for the dvd player not playing it, some dvd players cant play cd-r's(which im guessing ur using) check the dvd player section on this site, maybe that can help.

  3. I'm able to see and load the .dat file in mplayer, the file name will be there and all - it just won't play. It'll either say 'no combination of filters could be rendered to filter the stream' or else no message at all.

I've tried both cd-r and cd-rw on my dvd player, the cdrw's didn't play at all, the cdr's would play partially and without sound.
