  1. I am having problems fixing a frame freeze problem with a movie I have. It is xvid mpeg 4 encoded. I browsed vcdhelp for answers and found a tool called aviDefreezer that is suppose to fix it. But when I load the original file, entered the bad frames and hit 'defreeze', it says it cannot open the source avi file. Yet, I can play the source file (it just get stuck at a certain point in the movie) on a number of players.

I also noticed that when searching for the bad frames using virtualdub, I had to turn off the audio in order to play it or virtualdub will give an error. Looking in the file info, audio compression gives this info: unknown (tag 2000).

It looks like the audio format is not accepted by avidefreezer.
Is there a way around this?
what is the typical audio compression that comes with xvid mpeg 4?
what audio format does avidefreezer accepts?

I tried just about anything I can find on the web and I'm lost. Can someone give me some hints on how to fix this without deleting the bad frames?

    Thx.

Have you tried to choose both video and audio to "direct sream copy" and then save it like a new AVI?It worked for me.

  3. Yes, I have tried it and it allows me to play the movie although the bad frames are not watchable. But at least, it doesn't freeze.
